In line with my current mini obsession of the moment... apparently a company other than Sierra (no affiliation with Roberta Williams either) began creating a game called King's Quest 9. Vivendi eventually asked them to stop, but they were allowed to continue making the game as long as they changed the name. I haven't downloaded the demo.. and the screenshots look a lot less inspiring than the Al Emmo shots do, but this is probably worth checking out: The Silver Lining.
